That’s right. Actor, director Tim Robbins, the Bull Durham babe, is mad as hell at Hollywood and the National Association of Broadcasters, specifically, for being money grubbing business boobs. According to Tim, America needs to stop obsessing on Britney Spears or Jena Bush’s beach photos and actually DO something meaningful and good.

As a gossip writer I find the d’uh factor on this statement to be more obvious than whining about the expense of a $200 t-shirt at Kitson on Robertson. I’m sure the fat-cat businessmen (and women!) feel the same. Leave it to National Public Radio to talk about poor people and to report the the sky is falling, again.

Where’s the pot of gold at the end of the entertainment rainbow if nobody gets hurt? Who gets excited about good news? Isn’t the human brain wired for fear and competition? What gets your attention more: a shiny black Land Rover gunning it down Doheny as you’re trying to walk over to The Four Season’s or a hippy about to hand you a limp daisy as you’re on your hike in the Santa Monica mountains? I don’t want to get run over by a Persian! My chunky ass is hauling it across the street.

Tim suggests that America as a nation and a culture is in an “abyss”. Traditional broadcast media is in the crapper. The Internet is filled with garbage like what you’re reading right now and the war in Iraq (or “tha I-raq” as beauty pageant contestant called in last year) is insanity.

God, Tim is soooooooooo cute! He’s right about it all. If that Susan Sarandon girlfriend of his wouldn’t mind I’d love to open a bottle of red wine and talk all night with this dude. I mean he’s so passionate and those baby blues…damn girl!

You should listen to his sneaky, snarky, speech he gave to those suits in Vegas last week (Tim Robbins’ NAB Speech). It’s lovely and true and I’m glad Tim still says stuff like this. Keep it up, you West Covina hottie, you.
